FADE IN:
INTERSTELLAR VIEW OF THE EARTH
Camera slowly approaches the earth. “Orion” starts to play.
Voiceover:
The year is 2097.
It has been 105 years since the “Great Schism.”
The first ten years were the most difficult.
War, disease, and disaster plagued the earth.
The chaos claimed over 6 billion lives.
The survivors were left with a shell of what once was a verdant planet.
Those lucky enough to survive found themselves scattered across the globe, isolated and powerless.
The next ten years saw the rise of tribal societies that found themselves in limbo between primeval existence and advanced technology.
They became zealous in their drive to respect and explore the mysteries of the earth.
The obsession with transcendentalism, the occult sciences, and the metaphysical spurred the creation of new technologies, methods, and understanding.
They dedicated themselves to reconnecting with the natural world and resurrecting their planet.
New technologies were combined with natural phenomena in their efforts to forge a utopia.
For the fruits of their labor, they became attuned to the earth, and secrets once hidden were revealed.
Upon surveying the damage of past societies and their ignorance, they decided the only just course of action was to leave Mother Earth and let her heal.
FADE TO BLACK
EARTH CRISIS

Weakening magnetic field leads to increase in exposure to solar radiation.
Global warming causes sea levels to rise, flooding coastlines all over the world.
Ocean currents and thermo-clines disrupted; massive sea life die-off follows.
Earth climates become unpredictable and extreme. Habitable environments rapidly diminish.
Homeostatic collapse leads to ecological super catastrophe.
Unsanitary conditions and unsatisfactory medical facilities lead to widespread disease and massive casualties.
Birth rates decline. Life expectancy decreases. Homo Sapiens is classified as critically endangered species approaching extinction.
This is the new earth.

WORLD CHAPLAIN’S ADDRESS
Excerpt from a speech of the current world leader.
Text:
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have reached the point of crisis. We either abandon our home or face the end of our species. For the past ten years, the Natural Science and Technology Coalition has been exploring the viability of a space ring habitat. I am here before you to announce the commencement of its construction. I urge you to sacrifice of yourself all that you can towards the preservation of our species and to prepare yourselves physically and psychologically to leave Mother Earth indefinitely by 2117.
This is our only option for survival.
