Class project – Self-replicating habitat.
For the final project I intend to work with my roommate Alexander Carver on a social engineering project and sweeping critique that takes as its point of genesis the reform of the current self-replicating prison system and extends itself into a self-replicating social mindset. Rather than abandoning our current situation with utopian science-fiction scenarios, we intend to shed real critical light on the way we live under present-day widespread ideologies. Beginning with Foucault [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_Foucault] and extending through Baudrillard [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Baudrillard], with many in between, we will be researching and ultimately discussing effects of ideologies including, but not limited to: discipline, reform, power, technology and engineering, the notion of the ‘starchitect’, and government, and how our project will affect each one. As per the framework set up by the class description, our proposal is not meant to be realistic; we shall operate with an implicit expectation of fiat to realize our goals, and is intended to operate at the global scale.
Details at this time are a bit sketchy, as much of what we attempt to establish depends upon past theory, which takes time to explore. The deliverables for this presentation will include a lecture/report, and visual images.
