Assignments for Week 4:

  • Make a list of "qualities" you would like in a strange and new, imaginary material(s) for creating self-replicating structures. Explailn why those qualities would interest you. Also research materials that are in development that may resemble what you are imagining in any way. Post to the wiki not only what they are but why they interest you-- what would they prompt you to design and build as a habitat? Do you want to use materials that work like living systems in that they begin as one "cell" and then can differentiate into myriad specializations? Can one cell or the merger of two cells replicate to provide a whole structure for living with all its functions -- bath, bed and beyond? Or shoud separate modules be assigned to regenerate in specific forms for different functions. Consider these and/or any other questions which appeal to you - i.e., think about research methodologies for developing - single, hybrid or even random systems for self-replication.

  • Peruse these sites. Make a short statement (personal) on any aspect of the ethics that move you, if any, and the efficacy of the artists you've seen making work from living tissue, as activists. You can include the film "Strange culture"
